Вдруг вспомнил: в известном фильме Дзефирелли "Иисус из Назарета" в русском заглушающем переводе, несколько раз показанном по телевизору, Иуда Искариот говорит про себя, что он гуманитарий, что отец говорил ему, что он будет гуманитарием, и что в его волосах не будет плотницкой стружки.

Что там в оригинале? Или хотя бы что могло бы быть.

в каком-то популярном голивудском фильме, который крутят по НТВ по два раза в год - может "Чужой"? или что-то вроде) гомофоб в русском переводе звучит как "человеконенавистник" (а водород там же вообще как "гидроген")
...Или какой-нибудь благодетель, профессиональный раздатчик милостыни в храме ("гуманитарная помощь)...

хм, humanitarian по-англ. - это (одно из значений) "отрицающий божественность Иисуса Христа ( но признающий его человеческую природу )". еще одно значение - филантроп. возможно, истинна где-то между... :)

I've found a site that has some discussion of Judas's reaction to Mary (is this Mary Magdalene) anointing Jesus's feet with some very expensive ointment; Judas objects,saying that the money spent on the ointment should have been spent on the poor. Jesus disagrees. The website (seems to be amateur discussion, so to speak), notes that this represents some tension among the Jews (and early Christians) about the relative merits of spending money on worshipful acts vs spending money on humanitarian good. So I think there was nothing anti-Christian in the relevant sense of "humanitarian", and I never thought there was. Maybe it's "humanist" that has a sense that means non-religious? I'm in a hurry right now and can't check further, but it's an interesting issue! Here's an excerpt from the site, http://kwakerskripturestudy.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html .

Mary brought in a pound of very costly ointment, pure nard, and with it anointed the feet of Jesus, wiping them with her hair; the house was filled with the scent of the ointment.

He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; he was in charge of the common fund and used to help himself to the contents.

Thank you, Barbara! It seems very interesting indeed.

I think it has really something to do with spending money for humanitarian (=charity) goods and the Apostles' common fund -- although it seems that it was theft that was Judas' primary profession.
